Andy was coughing nonstop, ER says pneumonia and possible heart enlargement

PRAY FOR: Andy, 13 yo. Pneumonia, Heart Murmur, possible Cardiomegaly. Lord Jesus we ask that You would help mom Penny to treat Andy’s pneumonia effectively at home. Give her all the tools she needs. Work in Andy’s body, Lord. Give him the strength to clear his lungs thoroughly. We ask that You would strengthen his heart, reduce any possible enlargement and enable it to work well to assist his lungs. We love this dear boy, and ask for complete healing. His heart murmur is worse. His heart is enlarged plus he is being treated for possible punmonia

I am getting him a vet appt hopefully on Tues. To see how we will go from there.

Plus we had 🌪️ warnings all afternoon. Sirens went off 4 times

He is better. Not coughing as much. But he tires easily. So I carry him up and down stairs to go out.

Last night you had said possible pneumonia, is it a definite diagnosis then?
So many of the symptoms are the same as heart enlargement.

The vet who examined him said he has and enlarged heart and pneumonia.
This is also why I want to talk to Andy’s reg vet on tues

Ok. So they did not give him anything for the cough? No breathing treatment or cough medicine?
What symptom drove you to the ER? Cough, fatigue?

Coughing. It was non stop.
This was his take home instructions.
While the Dr vet verbally told me about his ❤️ murmr (which I knew) she also said his heart was enlarged
Plus I still had him and Misty on probiotics and disgestive enzymesw
I also got a cool mist vaporizer for him
Sometimes I feel er vets lay it on a bit thick

Ok. I don’t see anything about enlarged heart here, looks primarily like bacterial pneumonia is suspected.

I’m glad you have them bo[th] on probiotics and that you are using cool mist [on] him. Try to have it near his bed. You can try coupage if you want tomorrow if his cough is not productive.

Exactly. She only told me that. Andy’s reg vet had said he has a ❤️ murmur.
But nothing about an enlarged heart. So I want to talk to his reg vet.

I have looked through my heart notes, but since he is not yet being treated for heart enlargement I may wait until we hear from the regular Vet on Tuesday before addressing that here. Don’t know if u can hear this but this is the sound of his cough

Plus I found out the tornado that touched down was 23 miles from me
Andy has to see his vet for a recheck in 2 weeks but I’m wondering if I should have him seen before then for a second opinion

Gosh he is adorable with that tongue! Yeah I could hear it, not enough to really tell what’s going on in his lungs! If his tongue is any indication though it looks like he’s dealing with mucus. If you have any guaifenesin it wouldn’t hurt to thin the mucus with it.

Wow that’s pretty close for a tornado! But you were untouched? I’ve got a shutdown [Victor is] waiting for me to pray and get to bed.

I think it would be a good idea to have your regular vet see him for the cough. If they think that it’s pneumonia they’d know him better.

Yes Janesville was untouched. The 🌪️ was on the ground for a very short time
Is guaifenesin an over the counter med or perscription?

It’s over the counter you can find it in liquid cough medicines. Just don’t get one that has a cough suppressant in it. Guaifenesin help to liquify mucus that is why it’s used. You can get it in pills and crush it but it tastes really disgusting. That’s why it’s better in the Prepared syrup
